Ten years ago the average cost of a gallon of gasoline in the US was $1.01.  Five years ago that same gallon of gas averaged $1.55. Two years ago is was $3.00 and last month it was $4.00.  I think you see where I’m going with this. The average costs for a person commuting daily to work and back has nearly quadrupled in the last 10 years. Couple the cost of gas with higher maintenance costs, increased toll costs and general higher cost of living and you get a disaster in the making for American consumers. Shoot, even public transportation costs have sky rocketed over the last decade. The answer? I don’t have the all encompassing answer, but I do know that alternative fuels, higher efficiency vehicles and some slick technology can help the American consumer with the bout against increased commuting costs.

Video phone technology has also played its part in providing some relief.  Many companies have already implemented work from home programs, shortened in-office requirements and an understanding that their employees are burdened with added commuting costs eating into their extra pocket change. The reality is that video phone technology is helping to provide a transition.
